So you want to be a Witch? Maybe you've read a bit about the Craft, or maybe you haven't. Either way you're questioning whether or not the path of the Witch is for you...

Before getting into any craft or hobby, there are some questions you ask yourself. Sometimes you ask yourself subtly, without even noticing. But when it comes to religious and/or spiritual practices, you must be more direct with yourself, with these questions. The questions will vary with each person, but here I've listed out 20 questions that I believe you should ask yourself, and answer, before deciding upon becoming a Witch.

Exploring these questions honestly will help you figure out what kind of Witch you are, how serious you are about the Craft, and how you would like to practice, among other things.

The 20 Questions Every Maybe-Witch Should Ask Themselves

1. Am I looking for a religion to practice from time to time, or something that permeates every aspect of my life?

2. Am I drawn to certain arts of Witchcraft: Divination, crystals, herbs, nature, certain deities, etc? (list all that apply)

3. Can I dedicate myself to practicing/studying Witchcraft?

4. Do I believe in magick? If so, what is magick to me?

5. Do I believe in deities?

6. How do I want to use my magick?

7. How important is living lightly on the Earth to me?

8. How serious do I honestly feel about Witchcraft?

9. How much time can I dedicate to studying Witchcraft?

10. Why do I want to be a Witch?

11. What does the term 'Witchcraft' mean to me?

12. What is the Divine to me?

13. What makes Witchcraft a good fit for me?

14. What (if anything) makes Witchcraft a bad fit for me?

15. If you answered question 14: How can I/can I make Witchcraft fit me in all ways?

16. What do I hope to gain from practicing Witchcraft?

17. What are my long-term spiritual goals?

18. What drew me to Witchcraft in the first place?

19. What does the term 'Witch' mean to me?

Take your time answering these questions. Really think about them, and be as honest in your answers as possible. If you'd like a list of answers to compare them to, I've filled out the 20 questions below with my own personal answers. Keep in mind I've been a decided Witch for awhile now, so it makes sense if our answers don't align perfectly. This is just for comparison, and to give you something to reflect on while or after coming up with your answers. Try not to let my answers affect your own. If you fear they might, skip the list directly below until you've finished answering the questions for yourself.

1. Am I looking for a religion/belief system to practice from time to time, or something that permeates every aspect of my life? A belief system that permeates every aspect of my life.

2. Am I drawn to certain arts of Witchcraft: Divination, crystals, herbs, nature, certain deities, etc? (list all that apply) Yes, many. Divination, crystals, herbs, nature, the seasonal cycles, the Thirteen Goals of a Witch, the elements, runes, sigils, meditation, yoga, candle magick, essential oils, natural healing, and more!

3. Can I dedicate myself to practicing/studying Witchcraft? I can, and I have to this day.

4. Do I believe in magick? If so, what is magick to me? Yes I do. To me magick is almost undefinable. In the past it was the sun rising, said to be sent to us from the Gods. Then Science figured out the truth behind it and it became Science, not magick. So I suppose magick is all things, until they are explained, and then (though they are still magick to me!) they become Science.

5. Do I believe in deities? No, and the good thing about Witchcraft, is this part is completely optional. You don't have to believe in or worship deities, though you can do either. Either way you can still be a Witch.

6. How do I want to use my magick? To better myself, my life, and the lives of my friends and family. Also, to connect to myself, practice self love, and connect to Nature and the Divine.

7. How important is living lightly on the Earth to me? Very important.

8. How serious do I honestly feel about practicing? I can honestly say I am serious about this. It isn't/wasn't a phase, as time has proven.

9. How much time can I dedicate to studying Witchcraft? I study almost everyday.

10. Why do I want to be a Witch? Because it resonates with my very being. It brings me joy in a way nothing else does.

11. What is the Divine to me? An energy that runs through all living things.

12. What makes Witchcraft a good fit for me? It's beliefs correspond with many of my own, and I can mold my own path, I don't have to follow one set out for me.

13. What (if anything) makes Witchcraft a bad fit for me? Nothing does. Witchcraft is too personal to be a bad fit for me.

14. If you answered question 14: How can I/can I make Witchcraft fit me in all ways? If I come across something another Witch says that I do not agree with, I simply do not allow it into my version of Witchcraft (my path).

15. What do I hope to gain from practicing Witchcraft? What I have gained; what I wish to continue gaining. A deeper connection to myself and all living things.

16. What are my long-term spiritual goals? To become an adept practitioner. I really need to start practicing more!

17. What drew me to Witchcraft in the first place? My mother. I came across a book on Wicca in her library, and after that I started researching it. Wicca ended up leading me to Witchcraft, and I find it a much better fit for me.

18. What does the term 'Witch' mean to me? A practitioner of Witchcraft. A natural healer. Someone who incorporates magickal practice into all aspects of their lives.

19. What does the term 'Witchcraft' mean to me? The practice of magick and the Wise Ones.

I hope this list aids you in deciding upon your path. If you have any further questions, please feel welcome to Contact me. If you enjoyed this article please don't forget to vote, and comment your thoughts. Thank you, and until next time, merry part!
